Salmon theft case in Northern Norway has grown in scope.

It’s been just over a year since an Estonian lorry driver in his 40s was remanded in custody and charged with embezzlement as well as smuggling salmon from Norway to the Baltics. The man was stopped by police at Mowi’s factory at Herøy, Nordland, on the 13th of September, just as he was about to pick up fish.

Since then, Norwegian and Estonian police have been cooperating on the investigation. In March, police confirmed that seven people had been arrested by Estonian police, charged with organised crime and fraud in connection with the case.

Fisheries MEPs support an upgrade of the EU’s fisheries agreement with Mauritania, welcome more transparency and ask Mauritania to stop overfishing some small pelagic stocks.

MEPs on the Fisheries Committee gave a green light to a new 6-year EU – Mauritania fisheries partnership agreement with 24 votes to 2 and 1 abstention on Wednesday. They welcome that it strengthens environmental, economic, social and scientific cooperation and helps to enhance sustainable fisheries, contribute to improved ocean governance and combat illegal fishing in Mauritania.

MUSCAT: Eng. Nabil Al Bimani has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fisheries Development Oman (FDO).

In a statement issued, FDO said Al Bimani will replace Khalid Al Yahmadi.“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Eng. Nabil Salem Al Bimani as the company’s CEO, effective 15 May 2022, and to sincerely thank Mr. Khalid Ali Al Yahmadi for his continuous efforts during his leadership of #FDO,” FDO said.

Al Bimani was the former Group Chief Asset Manager at Asyad Group and was the Executive Director of Oman Global Logistics Group.

Scottish Skipper Expo 2022 has enjoyed a flying start on its first day (13 May) with large numbers of visitors turning-up from the moment the doors opened and exhibitors experiencing brisk business on their stands.

It was also a day of celebration, with Elspeth Macdonald, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (show sponsors) saying: “It is great to be in this excellent venue and I am delighted to see everyone today. The fishing industry has much to be proud about and much to promote.”

Mari Gougeon, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, wished everyone a fabulous couple of days at the expo, and added: “It is fantastic that everyone is able to get together today.”

Addressed to Vice President for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, the letter calls for EU fisheries and trade policies to be aligned as part of the European Commission's ongoing review of its 15-point action plan on trade and sustainable development.
