The Cooke family’s group of companies began with Cooke Aquaculture, which was established in 1985 as Kelly Cove Salmon by Gifford, Michael and Glenn Cooke.

The company’s origins were humble, beginning with a single marine cage site containing 5,000 salmon. Four years later the family decided it needed a consistent and independent supply of eggs and smolt so it purchased Oak Bay Hatchery.
Through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Cooke Aquaculture processes and sells more than 115 million pounds of Atlantic salmon and 35 million pounds of trout each year.

July 22, 2011, Cooke Aquaculture has inked a deal to acquire Morpol ASA subsidiary Culmarex SA. Culmarex is Spain’s largest seabass and seabream farming operation.
May 14, 2014 - Blacks Harbour NB Canada: Cooke Aquaculture announce the closing of its deal with Marine Harvest for the purchase of its fully owned subsidiary, Meridian Salmon Farms Limited.

Cooke achieves Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification for North America.
Cooke acquires Meridian Salmon Farms Limited (now Cooke Aquaculture Scotland).

Cooke family creates Cooke Seafood USA Inc. and acquires the Wanchese Fish Company.
