Walmart stores that ran a targeted sustainable seafood campaign have seen a significant lift in fresh seafood sales, an executive with the leading global retailer said.
Starting this spring, Walmart launched a massive store signage campaign for both fresh and frozen seafood “to communicate more clearly to customers the quality, value, and sustainability of the seafood they buy at Walmart,” Jacqui Lyons, divisional merchandise manager for seafood and seasonal meat for Walmart U.S. said in a press release from FMI - The Food Industry Association.

High Liner Foods of Canada, one of North America’s leading seafood businesses, is being sold to the Umios Corporation of Japan in a deal worth CAN $1.25 billion (£668m).
Umios is a world leader in the global seafood and marine protein market and a longstanding supplier to High Liner Foods.The acquisition advances the Japanese group’s strategy to build a more integrated global seafood and protein business, with High Liner Foods central to its North American expansion.

A fish escape is suspected to have occurred at a Mowi salmon farm in Norway after a tuna weighing a third of a tonne torpedoed its way into a pen.
Ragnhild Dahle Heen, group leader in the aquaculture supervision and guidance section of Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries, told Fish Farming Expert’s Norwegian sister site, Kyst.no, that the department received a report of a tuna in a pen The incident occurred at Mowi's Skipningsdalen fish farm in Flekkefjord municipality in Norway’s southwest corner. Heen said that the company has initiated recapture procedures.

Norway's average fresh salmon export price rose to NOK 76.04 (€7.32) per kilogram in week 43, up 2.7% from the previous week, according to figures published by Statistics Norway on Wednesday.
The price increased by NOK 1.99/kg from NOK 74.05 (€7.04) in week 42, marking a second consecutive weekly increase.
Fresh salmon export volumes rose 3.0% to 28,518 tonnes, compared with 27,689 tonnes the previous week. It was the first weekly increase in shipments since week 39.

Cooperative banks to expand financing for India's fishing sector.
Maharashtra is easing fisheries credit after granting the sector agricultural status. NABARD has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore, while the state aims to grow fisheries business from Rs 1,240 crore to Rs 5,000 crore by 2029, promoting low-interest loans.

Europêche has called on the European Commission to include a targeted revision of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) in its 2027 Work Programme, expressing disappointment with the EU’s Vision for Fisheries 2040.Following a meeting with the Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis, the fishing industry association welcomed plans for practical measures in 2027–2028 but stressed that implementation must accompany legislative reform.
