Delicious Crispy, Crunchy Chip Made From Sustainably Seaweed

  (UNITED STATES, 4/19/2016)

New Frontier Foods, maker of Ocean's Halo seaweed products, offers totally delicious crispy, crunchy snacks made from USDA Organic, sustainably harvested seaweed.

Its latest addition, Almond Seaweed Strips, features crunchy almonds in between two lightly sweetened seaweed strips. The new Almond Seaweed Strips were launched in the US after a successful trial run in more than 850 Starbucks locations in Korea. Ocean's Halo also added a new flavour to its popular sheeted seaweed Snacks – Maui Onion – which remain available in Sea Salt, Texas BBQ and Sriracha flavours.

Ocean's Halo Sea Salt Seaweed Snacks are a healthy and satisfying alternative to potato chips.

Ocean's Halo Seaweed Snacks are not only USDA-certified organic, but are also Non-GMO Project verified, Vegan certified, and use only gluten-free ingredients.  The brand's seasoning and flavours makes it possible to use less salt than other brands. Ocean's Halo also uses higher Omega, heart-healthy oils and invests in certified compostable materials for its packaging. Committed to health and sustainability in every way, Ocean's Halo Seaweed Chips are sold in 100% compostable bags produced from wood pulp that is sourced from managed tree farms. The bags are also recyclable through organic recycling (composting) facilities.

Delicious and simple.

One of the most nutrient-dense plants on the planet, seaweed has been a staple of the healthy Asian diet for hundreds of years. In addition to being a great source of vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, seaweed is rich in iodine, selenium, and iron and can contain up to 10 times more calcium than milk.

Seaweed has also been linked to a variety of health benefits, including preventing osteoporosis, improving insulin resistance, and helping control cholesterol and managing weight.

One serving of Ocean's Halo Seaweed Chips provides 40% of the daily value of Vitamin A. It also has 45% fewer calories (85 per 1 oz. serving), 75% less fat (2.5 g) and 14% less carbohydrates (13 g) than potato chips. Ocean's Halo is high in protein (5 g), fibre (2 g), vitamins, and minerals.

All Ocean's Halo snacks are packed with vitamins and minerals and have none of the bad stuff like GMOs, trans fats or artificial anything.

In addition to the exciting product additions, Ocean's Halo has signed a long term, exclusive sales and distribution agreement with one of the largest and most experienced USDA Organic seaweed producers globally to develop the first seaweed manufacturing plant in the US, to be located in Southern California. The agreement and plant will allow the company to supply seaweed to all North America retailers in support of private label and branded products. The plant will open in Q2 2016 and in addition to private label production, will produce all of Ocean's Halo's sheeted seaweed snack flavours.

CEO Robert Mock.

"We've been embraced by the healthy snacking community during the past nine months with our sheeted snacks, and want to be sure we stay ahead of the curve and consistently offer our consumers new, innovative healthy seaweed snack options," said Robert Mock, CEO and co-founder of Ocean's Halo.

"The opening of the manufacturing facility in Q2 has not only provided tremendous advantages within our supply chain, but will also allow us to provide much faster and more cost-effective seaweed supply for U.S. retailers in support of their branded and private label products. Ocean's Halo can now be found in nearly 5,000 retail locations across the globe and we look forward to continuing to innovate and provide healthy and delicious snack alternatives," Mock adds.

Shoppers can now find Ocean's Halo Seaweed snack products in Whole Foods, Costco, Albertsons, Safeway & Vons, Starbucks, Mollie Stones and a variety of specialty markets, co-ops and restaurants in the US and abroad. Ocean's Halo is also sold on Amazon.com.
