The closure measure of the 87 fishing zones is going to generate more problems than those relating to the bottom trawling fleets and others to which the measure is being applied. In fact, the shipowners of Ondarroa have described the closure of vulnerable marine ecosystems (VME, in English) as a "hammer blow", as ordered by the EU Commission. According to Kiko Marin, from the Ondarroa Producers Organization, «a good part of the areas that are closed are in the cliffs (usual fishing areas for fixed gear vessels, such as longliners and flyers.
The European Commission adopted the programs of the European Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEAMPA) for Romania, under which the country will receive EUR 232 mln (of which EUR 162 mln from the EU) to implement the EU common fisheries policy.
Nearly a quarter (24%) of the Union contribution will be dedicated to sustainable fisheries, 47% will be invested in sustainable aquaculture and processing and marketing, and 23% will be dedicated to the sustainable blue economy in coastal, island and internal regions, all contributing to the EU’s environmental and climate objectives.
The total financial allocation for the Romanian Programme 2021-2027 (EUR 232 mln) will promote the sustainable growth of the Romanian aquaculture and fishing sector over the next six years.
High seafood prices have driven Norway to its third-best month ever in terms of export value, despite many species seeing lower volumes overall and reports of “unrest” in salmon markets.

The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has told the autonomous communities that he will fight to defend the best fishing opportunities for the Spanish fishing fleet at the AGRIFISH Council on 11 and 12 December, in which the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and fishing quotas for the year 2023 will be decided.
The minister has announced that he will present alternative measures to avoid a further reduction of the days of fishing in the Mediterranean and the revision of some of the proposals for the Atlantic.

The cooperation agreement between Morocco and Mauritania in the field of fisheries and aquaculture has been extended until 2024.
