The Chilean Salmon Council, a guild made up of AquaChile, Australis, Cermaq, Mowi and Salmones Aysén, says the number of workers they employed in Q2 2022 has increased by nearly 6 percent, or 918 people, over Q2 2021.
“The different figures in the report show an improvement in the generation of employment by salmon farming, compatible with the rise in exports of Chilean salmon to the world,” says Joanna Davidovich, executive director of the Salmon Council.

The European Commission adopted the programs of the European Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEAMPA) for Romania, under which the country will receive EUR 232 mln (of which EUR 162 mln from the EU) to implement the EU common fisheries policy.
Nearly a quarter (24%) of the Union contribution will be dedicated to sustainable fisheries, 47% will be invested in sustainable aquaculture and processing and marketing, and 23% will be dedicated to the sustainable blue economy in coastal, island and internal regions, all contributing to the EU’s environmental and climate objectives.
The total financial allocation for the Romanian Programme 2021-2027 (EUR 232 mln) will promote the sustainable growth of the Romanian aquaculture and fishing sector over the next six years.

The Russian aquaculture sector is facing the deepest crisis in its modern history, as the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the ever tightening sanctions on Russia has led to a shortage of fish feed, juveniles and equipment.
According to the Russian Aquaculture Association (Rosrybkhoz), aquaculture production grew by 8.3 percent to reach 253,200 tonnes in 2021, with trout accounting for 45 percent of the market, carp 18 percent, sturgeon 7 percent and the remainder including a wide range of species such as oysters, mussels and catfish.

Portugal and Slovenia have become the latest E.U. countries to adopt the European Maritime, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) program, opening the countries to millions in funding.
Portugal will receive EUR 392.6 million (USD 413.2 million) over the next six years, the European Commission has confirmed.
The total financial allocation for the Portuguese program is EUR 539.9 million (USD 568.4 million), with the Commission advising that 37.2 percent, or EUR 146.3 million (USD 154 million), of the allocation will be dedicated to sustainable fisheries and the compensation of additional costs in the outermost regions
