BioMar is the first global aquafeed supplier to adopt this 1.5°C path to net zero under the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions must be cut in half by 2030 and reach zero by 2050 to avoid the worst effects of climate change. To achieve this goal, private and public entities must follow a line of reductions to keep global warming below 1.5 ºC.
Salmon feed manufacturer BioMar has taken a swipe at rivals for their continuing trade with Russia following that country’s invasion of Ukraine.
BioMar announced higher sales volumes, revenue, and operating profits for the second quarter of 2022, and has raised earnings guidance for the year, but said it was still challenged by raw material prices, energy costs and the impact of suspending trade with Russia.

BioMar Group and Síldarvinnslan have signed a memorandum of understanding to build a modern high-tech aquafeed production facility in Iceland.
The Icelandic aquaculture industry has grown tenfold since 2010 and prides itself on a sustainability focus and increased organic production at sea. The newer land-based projects are taking advantage of the natural environmental conditions to reduce resource requirements by utilising geothermal sources.
The vessel from Ervik Havfiske AS and Marin Teknikk AS is the first of its kind. With a built-in moonpool and a new haul system, the fishing vessel will help facilitate more efficient operations and safer working conditions for the fishermen. The project will be revealed in its entirety during this year’s Nor-Fishing.

Fresh and frozen seafood sales continued their decline in U.S. supermarkets in July due to inflation and increased restaurant visits, but shelf-stable seafood sales rose as cost-conscious consumers look for ways to save money.
Frozen seafood sales dropped 7.4 percent during the month to USD 651 million (EUR 640 million). Fresh seafood fell even more, falling 9.9 percent to USD 638 million (EUR 627 million), according to new data from IRI and 210 Analytics.
