Productos del Mar Ventisqueros SA has settled the acquisition of the salmon division of Congelados Pacífico, with which it hopes to strengthen its seafood area.
Cristián Swett, Ventisqueros CEO, said they were really satisfied with the result of this transaction, and that the new infrastructure will enable them to be positioned "as a major salmon farming firm, with assets in freshwater, fattening and processing areas that would make it possible to have an annual volume reaching 50,000 tonnes."
The new infrastructure includes two breeding fish farms for egg production, four nursery hatcheries, two smolting fish farms, a lake centre, 43 sea concessions located in 12 different neighbourhoods, a storage facility and three processing plants.
"The future strategy will involve running both companies with a single administration, oriented towards Atlantic salmon production," the entrepreneur pointed out.
As to production levels, the idea is to evaluate them according to the sanitary and market conditions.
Swett highlighted that the new conditions to be reached "will be completely independent from all its production line, and through the diversification of concessions and neighbourhoods, it will have the capacity to produce in an efficient and consistent manner every month."
Ventisqueros is one of the four divisions of the German group Schörghuber, which accumulated a turnover amounting to USD 862 million in the 2012 balance sheet, the newspaper Estrategia reported.
According to Christoph Michl, Ventisqueros chairman and board member of the Schörghuber Firm Group, all the investments made, including those of 2012 and the recent purchase of the salmon division of Congelados Pacífico, "provide an ideal base" to ensure the future success of the business division Seafood.
