Salmon Raised in the Pristine Waters of the Andes

  (CHILE, 4/12/2013)

Productos del Mar Ventisqueros S.A. is a Chilean business with 20 years of experience in the cultivation and processing of salmon. Ventiqueros operations are established in Chile’s Patagonia, an area with some of the best, most pristine water and, where some of the planet’s most important water reserves are located.

Today, Ventisqueros is one of the most stable salmon businesses in the industry, known and respected in foreign markets for maintaining the highest quality standards, and for its strong commitment to serving its clients and developing its products.

A major advance for Ventisqueros took place in 2011, when the company became the fourth division of the Schörghuber Group, a highly respected German holding company.

Ventisqueros' plants are certified to export to every market

Ventisquero's strategically designed distribution system links its salmon hatcheries, cultivation centres and its two processing plants, assuring the excellent quality of its raw materials. Ventisqueros main processing plant receives the live fish in the Chincue Bay. It is one of the most modern plants of its kind in the world, recognized as such by the company's clients and in the industry.

Ventisqueros has three salmon hatcheries (including one under construction), 26 salmon farms and two processing plants. The company's hatcheries, salmon farms and processing plants are strategically located to assure the quality of its harvests. The value of the product is directly related to its location - salmon hatcheries fed by pristine water coming from the Andes mountain range.

Since Ventisqueros' receiving plants are close to the ocean, salmon are freshly harvested and quickly processed

Ventisqueros' product line includes traditional filets, as well as value added products like smoked salmon. All products are exported to markets around the world, including Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.

Since Ventisqueros' main processing plant is located 30 minutes from Puerto Montt, it can harvest its fish live, assuring the freshness of the products. Ventisqueros' state-of-the-art 8,000 square meter process plant was built in 2007, and receives the recently harvested, live salmon to guarantee the freshness of its products. Ventisqueros' plants are certified to export to every market and have been given the highest quality ranking (category A1). The company has HACCP certification and is working towards achieving BRC certification.

The smoking plant is 100 kilometres south of Puerto Montt in Rio Negro, Hornopirén, where the company manufactures smoked products, adding great value in line with its customer and market place demands. This plant is one of the industry’s largest smoked products plants.

Since Ventisqueros' receiving plants are close to the ocean, salmon are freshly harvested and quickly processed, thus guaranteeing the quality of its products. The company's high food safety standards and good business practices allows to sell its products in demanding markets like Japan.

In 2010 Ventisqueros began an ambitious, five-year sustainability plan to pinpoint the company's shortcomings so they could be addressed. Ventisqueros is the first Chilean salmon company to measure its carbon footprint in an effort to lower its environmental impact. It was also the first business to use copper salmon cages to help lessen the environmental impact of its fish farms. Ventisqueros' cages are 100 percent reusable, avoiding the use of contaminating paints and contributing to the lowering of CO2 emissions, compared to the conventional technology.
