Coquimbo artisanal fishermen make good assessment of jack mackerel catch
(CHILE, 5/4/2020)
Leaders of the artisanal fishermen of Coquimbo, rated the work of catching jack mackerel as positive after the agreement they reached with the Orizon Fishery that allowed them to be part of the 500 tons that the fishery processes daily. Carlos Santander, leader of the fishermen, said that in recent days they have not gone out fishing due to the wind that has risen in the sea, but that all the previous time "we went super well, we met the quota and we were meeting the fishing, only These days it has been difficult to go fishing for jack mackerel, we were taking between 12 and 13 tons per boat, "said Santander, adding that there were almost 15 boats working daily.

The leader acknowledged that the fishing company has complied with the agreements and has maintained the processing quota and they have been contributing about 130 tons per day. In addition, it has agreed to deliver a quota of them of industrial anchovy catch to artisanal ones. "That was transferred by the fishery to three artisanal vessels that have the authorized registration to be able to capture." He said that thanks to this authorization they will go out on Sunday to catch anchovy. Carlos Santander described the agreement as very positive and that it meant income for skippers and crews.
