104 Years and Still Wild!

  (CANADA, 9/22/2010)

With over a century of experience, Canfisco (Canadian Fishing Company’s) has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leading supplier of quality Pacific seafood. Gold Seal is the premium national brand for Canfisco’s line of canned salmon, tuna and seafood products.

In addition to canned salmon and tuna, Canfisco also offers a variety of other fresh and frozen seafood products including wild halibut, black cod, and herring

Canfisco is a fully-integrated fishery products organization. Along with its American affiliate, Alaska General Seafoods (AGS), Canfisco supplies Canadian grocery markets with Gold Seal, Tea Rose and other private label canned seafood products. Gold Seal also supplies a complementary line of canned tuna, crab, mussels, clams, smoked oysters, wild sockeye oil, and flavoured tuna snack products. Renowned for its premium taste and quality, Gold Seal is a major brand of canned salmon in Canada and its national market share continues to grow.

Canfisco also markets a range of fresh, frozen and value added salmon products under several private label brands. The company also offers a variety of other fresh and frozen seafood products including wild halibut, black cod, and herring. All Canfisco canneries are Kosher certified. Canfisco has also launched a number of new frozen value-added wild seafood products including BC spot prawns, Pacific halibut portions and Canadian hot smoked trout.

Canfisco is the largest packer of canned salmon in Canada

From its headquarters in the Vancouver harbour, Canfisco ensures the highest quality seafood products by managing its catch from the nets of its fishing vessels through modern processing facilities to premium, high-value, prepared seafood products for its customers. Canfisco owns and operates the largest fleet of fishing vessels in British Columbia and purchases fish from hundreds of fishermen throughout the province.

At the peak of the summer fishing season in British Columbia and Alaska, there are more than 3,000 people involved in Canfisco and AGS’ fishing vessels and shoreside operations.

Canfisco’s fleet delivers prime quality wild seafood products including Pacific salmon, halibut, black cod, hake, groundfish, sardines, spot prawns as well as other value added products such as hot smoked salmon and trout, salmon lox, herring roe and salmon caviar, while AGS’ fleet participates in the Alaskan herring and salmon fisheries. AGS is a major salmon processor that continues to expand its value-added operations for the canned skinless and boneless salmon, as well as the fresh and frozen salmon fillet markets.

About Canfisco – Canadian Fishing Company

Canfisco has been harvesting, processing and marketing seafood since 1906. An industry leader since its inception, Canfisco and its associate companies were the first to apply modern quick freezing methods and very low storage temperatures to improve the quality of frozen fish.

In 1984, Canfisco became part of the Jim Pattison Group, the third largest privately held company in Canada with operations in a wide range of business areas including automotive, food, media, packaging, entertainment, periodical distribution, and export and financial services.

Today, Canfisco products are sold throughout North America, Western Europe, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and many other countries. The tradition of excellence continues as the company process its products in state-of-the-art facilities according to strict standards of quality

The company is the largest packer of canned salmon in Canada. As a leader in the wild salmon industry, the company process and sell in excess of 45 million pounds of salmon each year.

In 2009, AGS had a record pack of canned salmon and significantly increased its frozen sockeye fillet operation at its Naknek, Alaska facility; and Canfisco remains the largest vertically integrated producer of wild salmon and herring roe in Canada.
