The partnership with Lumar will involve comprehensive assessments of the sustainability of all seafood sources.

Lumar Seafood International and SFP Announce New Partnership

  (SPAIN, 7/16/2015)

Lumar Seafood International (Lumar) and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) announced a partnership dedicated to ensuring the ecological sustainability of seafood supplies.

SFP is dedicated to helping businesses source seafood responsibly and works with major seafood buyers across the world. The partnership with Lumar will involve comprehensive assessments of the sustainability of all seafood sources along with the creation of improvement projects to enhance environmental performance. The ambition is to ensure that all seafood sources for Lumar originate from approved, certified sources or from fisheries and farms engaged in improvement projects.

Lumar Seafood International relies on 50 years of experience in the maritime world – experience derived from direct fishing activities in international fishing areas, with direct knowledge of fleets, responsible fishing activities, and management of international companies related to the fishing sector.

Lumar is a Spanish seafood processing company that has naturally evolved from the fishing sector to become a leader in the development of natural added-value seafood products as well as internationally-recognized innovative recipes and ready-to-eat meals. The company supplies both retail and food service throughout Europe.

 Natural tuna supreme.

Announcing the partnership, Alberto Romero Bermo, Lumar’s Director of Fisheries and Sustainability, said: “After having participated with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership in some responsible fishing and sustainability forums we feel quite comfortable and confident that this is a solid partnership that will continue to improve Lumar’s commitment to responsible and ethical sourcing at the highest level.”

Pedro Ferreiro of Sustainable Fisheries Partnership commented: “We are very excited in developing this approach in Spain with a company like Lumar. Its international fishing knowledge and background together with big concerns about ecological sustainability of fisheries will allow both, ourselves and Lumar, to engage the whole supply chain in delivering real improvements.”

About Sustainable Fisheries Partnership

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership is an international, not-for-profit organisation that helps businesses implement policies for the responsible sourcing of seafood. It is a global organisation and works with leading retailers, food service companies and processors around the world.

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership is reshaping the world of corporate responsibility through the creation of powerful information tools and a methodology that allows companies to directly engage with suppliers of natural resources.
