Largest Environmentally Sustainable Abalone Aquaculture Facility
(AUSTRALIA, 1/4/2016)
From the cool, clean waters of the Australia Southern Ocean comes the renowned Jade Tiger Abalone™.
Jade Tiger Abalone is bred for its unique combination of sweetness and medium texture making it the gourmet’s choice. It is bred exclusively by The Craig Mostyn Group and is a cherished delicacy worldwide.
Craig Mostyn owns and runs Australia’s largest abalone farm and it focuses on direct delivery of live, frozen and canned abalone from its-in house export facilities.
The farm is Australia’s largest environmentally sustainable abalone aquaculture facility, it covers ten hectares and includes 400 grow out tanks with a surface area of 20,000 sqm.
Last month, on a world first, Jade Tiger Abalone's Indented Head abalone farm was recognized for environmental and social responsibility by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). Indented Head is the first farm to receive certification under the ASC Abalone Standard, and Jade Tiger demonstrated strong leadership in piloting this program.
Jade Tiger Abalone™ canned is processed to the highest quality.
"This is a huge step forward in Jade Tiger Abalone's journey to become the best possible aquaculture operation," said Anton Krsinich, General Manager of Jade Tiger Abalone. "Certification is about minimizing our environmental impact, providing good working conditions for our employees and being a good neighbour. We are incredibly proud of this achievement.
Our customers in Asia are increasingly seeking high quality, cleanly produced seafood, the accreditation process and maintaining this standard will help us retain and grow our market share.
We have ongoing conversations with our local community about how we can be the best possible neighbour. We remain committed to continuous improvement and protecting our local environment is something our team values highly."
By committing to certification, Jade Tiger Abalone has opened itself to third-party evaluation in areas of energy and water use, local water quality impacts, and employment practices. SCS Global Services (SCS), a leading third-party certification body, completed the assessment of the Indented Head Farm.
The Craig Mostyn Group has received internationally recognised HACCP certification of its Food Safety Plan through SGS systems & services certification.
Jade Tiger Abalone is a unique product, grown only by the Craig Mostyn Group and it was developed in 2006 under partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). A highly selective breeding program produces the Jade Tiger Abalone with distinctive shell and meat characteristics which meet the expectations of its export and domestic customers.
Jade Tiger Abalone is proposing to expand its Indented Head operations. It will incorporate state-of-the-art technology to enable environmentally sustainable and efficient abalone production.
The project will result in the creation of 41 local jobs by September 2018. The new jobs will make Jade Tiger Abalone one of the area’s biggest employers and economic contributors.
