South Korea's Wholesale Distribution Price of Norwegian Mackerel (January 2025 Update)
(SOUTH KOREA, 1/13/2025)
As of December 2024, the total import volume of frozen mackerel reached 40,928 tons, marking a 14.4% decline compared to 47,787 tons in 2023.
Despite this reduction, the domestic distribution price has remained stable at approximately 97,000 KRW, with no significant fluctuations. The average import price of frozen mackerel in 2024 stood at USD 2.42/kg.

- Norway:
- Volume: 38,204 tons (93% of total imports)
- Average Import Price: USD 2.44/kg
- China:
- Volume: 1,569 tons (3.83%)
- Average Import Price: USD 2.28/kg
- Netherlands:
- Volume: 848 tons (2.07%)
- Average Import Price: USD 2.16/kg
In the second week of January 2025, the wholesale price of Norwegian frozen mackerel was:

- Price: 97,000 KRW
- No change from December 2024’s price.
- Over 50% increase from 64,000 KRW in January 2024.

- Price: 97,000 KRW
- Slight decrease of 0.51% from December 2024’s 97,500 KRW.
- More than 40% increase compared to 69,000 KRW in January 2024.

Market Outlook
The steady rise in Norwegian mackerel prices is anticipated to persist, driven by reduced import volumes and sustained demand.
