Coldwater Seafood was formed in 1996 following the acquisition of Faroe Seafood Company in Grimsby by the Icelandic Group. The combined business operated from two sites in Grimsby and mainly produced frozen coated fish products for the retail and foodservice sectors.
In 2002 Coldwater took its first steps towards expansion into the growing chilled retail seafood sector by acquiring a manufacturing site in Redditch. This operation added chilled seafood ready meals and ‘ready to eat’ delicatessen seafood to Coldwater’s range of capabilities.
To increase Coldwater’s share of the chilled seafood retail sector, the Icelandic Group purchased two operations from Northern Foods’ seafood division in July 2004 – a primary fish processing facility in Aberdeen and a retail seafood manufacturing site in Grimsby. The Grimsby operation was merged into Coldwater’s existing retail manufacturing sites throughout 2005.
Since 2005 Coldwater has consolidated its operations to focus on core skills of quality ready meals and coated fish. Today, Coldwater employs over 600 people across its two centres of excellence in Grimsby. We are major UK frozen and chilled seafood supplier to Marks & Spencer, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and the Co-Operative.
We work with over 40 different species of fish and shellfish in our business each week and we have close working relationships with all of our suppliers to ensure that our raw materials, packaging and ingredients come from sustainable resources.
