Something might be fishy at your supermarket’s seafood counter – and not in a good way – so U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer wants the Food and Drug Administration to step up enforcement efforts.
Boxer, D-Calif., sent a letter today to FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg urging the agency to crack down on an alarmingly high rate of seafood fraud, where fish and other seafood is deliberately mislabeled and sold to consumers.

GRAFTON - Business partners bringing an Asian carp processing plant to the city are awaiting the final word from the federal government to start the project within a month.
American Heartland Fish Products LLC, based in Grafton, made it known more than a year ago that it would build a fish processing plant in Grafton off Illinois Route 3, where the city annexed land about two years ago. The federal grant is approved, but American Heartland business partners have yet to receive a check.

Canadian Fishing Company and Safeway showed the biggest improvement reflecting significant improvements to their canned tuna sourcing policies, according to a second annual Greenpeace survey released on 5 April.
Greenpeace gave a passing grade to almost half of 14 major brands sold in Canada.

New Zealand King Salmon says the Ora King brand it launched on to the Kiwi fine dining market last night is "the pinnacle of our company's achievement", the fish equivalent of high-priced wagyu beef.
Chief executive Grant Rosewarne said the brand was a premium product line resulting from more than two decades of "classical breeding" - salmon developed especially for fine dining.

Justice Elaine Adair dismissed the case in September, saying while Staniford's statements were defamatory and he was motivated by malice, the activist honestly believed in what he was saying and animosity wasn't his dominant purpose.
