Boreal Artik is bringing innovation and added value to the seafood category.

Boreal Artik is Revolutionizing the Fresh Fish Market

  (SPAIN, 1/29/2024)

Boreal Artik is a young company that produces food products, in particular, refrigerated trays of all types of fish to be sold in the supermarkets' fish section. The products do not contain preservatives or additives, responding to the new consumer demands that are looking for quality, commitment with sustainability and a clean label.

Refrigerated fish and prepared in trays is gaining ground little by little on the shelves of the supermarkets due to the convenience it provides by extending the useful life of fresh fish and seafood while maintaining its organoleptic properties. This business niche is bringing a lot of innovation and added value to the seafood category.

Boreal Artik is oriented towards the European retailer, where this type of product is in high demand.

Boreal Artik's factory has 7,000 m2 and the latest technology and installations guarantee maximum quality for the company's  products and optimum hygiene and sanitation conditions. To achieve their mission, Boreal Artik boast an innovative technology that represents a veritable revolution in the food world: High Pressure Processing, or HPP.

With the company's technology the products achieve a life expiration of around 21 days (compared to the current 7), thus, logistically, it is feasible to  reach the south of Europe, which is a real revolution.

Boreal Artik's technology allows to offer the best of fish, preserving its texture and natural vitamins, avoiding adding any type of preservatives or additives.

This modern technology is based on submerging the tray of fish in water and later injecting more water at high pressures, up to 6,000 bars. To appreciate how powerful this remarkable technique is, 6,000 bars is equivalent to the pressure that would exist under 60 km of water. This intense pressure reduces harmful bacteria (Listeria, E.coli, Salmonella, etc.), decreasing them to minimal levels, which increases the products’ shelf lives. The pressure not only destroys harmful bacteria, but also kills all kinds of parasites (Anisakis, etc.).

The HPP process offers a longer shelf life and less food waste.

The other great upside of HPPs is that these results are achieved without the need to subject the products to traditional heat treatments, or to use chemicals, preservatives or additives. Thanks to the absence of heat during the process, seafood processed using HPP maintains its natural properties, texture, flavour and nutrients throughout its shelf life.

And, since this technology does not heat the product, it remains in the same condition as before it was packaged, such that, if it is raw fish, it remains just as fresh after HPP treatment. Thus, it has been possible to reduce bacteria, but in a totally neutral process with respect to the product’s organoleptic qualities, all while maintaining its natural vitamins and nutrients.

Boreal Artik's products include cephalopods, crustaceans, seafood mixes, cod and a wide variety of clean fish. These fresh and delicious products can be found in French, Italian and Spanish supermarkets.
