As many as 124 employees will lose their jobs in a restructuring move by seafood processor BlueWater Seafoods when the firm closes down its Lachine plant.
The Quebec-based firm’s employees will be out of work as from 1 June, 2014, but the company has stated that it will support its employees and tackle the issue with “fairness and respect”, reports the Canadian Press.
Most of the workers at the company have been employed there for more than twenty years.
In an official statement the company expressed that the restructuring move will be made as part of a “comprehensive strategy to consolidate its manufacturing operations in order to increase efficiency.”
