The average CIF price of fresh bluefin imported by Japan was JPY 1,432/kg in February, down 26% on that of the previous month and 31% on that of February 2017. In the first two months, the average was JPY 1,617/kg, down 19% on that of the same period in 2017.

Markets
In February, imports of fresh bluefin amounted to 599 tonnes, worth JPY 858 million at Japanese Customs.
These figures are up 80% in volume and 33% in value on those of the previous month. Compared with February 2017, they were up 102% in volume and 40% in value

In the first two months of the year, they totalled 931 tonnes, worth JPY 1,505 million, up 53% in volume and 24% in value on those of the same period in 2017.

The main supplier of northern bluefin (Thunnus thynnus and/or Thunnus orientalis) was Mexico with 610 tonnes and JPY 1,196 million.
