Markets
Total imports of tuna in August, fresh and frozen, reached about 19,952 tonnes, with a value at Japanese Customs of JPY 13,253 million. These figures are up 57% in volume and 54% in value on those of July and compared with those of August 2013, the volume is up 53% and and so is the value by 51%.
Imports of fresh tuna during the month reached 1,815 tonnes with a value of JPY 2,269 million at Japanese Customs, down 10% in volume and 9% in value on those of the previous month, and down 5% in volume and value on those of August 2013.

As regards frozen tuna, imports during the month reported 18,137 tonnes, worth JPY 10,984 million at Japanese Customs.
These figures are up 69% in volume and 80% in value on those of the previous month and compared with those of August 2013, the volume is up 63% and the value is up 71%.

2.1 European Union
Landed volumes
Spain
On the wholesale market of Mercamadrid, incoming volumes of tunid and squaliform species rose by 29 tonnes. The most important rise was reported by frozen shortfin mako. The most significant drop was reported by frozen swordfish.

France
At French ports, during week 40, volumes of albacore declined by 47 tonnes. The main port was Les Sables D'olonne.

Italy
At Italian ports, landed volumes of picked dogfish declined. Those of albacore, bullet tuna and swordfish increased. The most important volumes were landed at the port of Aci Trezza.

Prices
Prices of skipjack are stable both on the market of Bangkok, at USD 1,600/t, and in the Indian Ocean at USD 1,400/t.
Prices of yellowfin remained in all markets. On Manta it was at EUR 1,700/t. Catch volumes of the Indian ocean remained at USD 2,000/t and on Abidjan they stayed at EUR 2,030/t.
Spain
In Spain prices of skipjack stayed at EUR 1,450/t CFR Spain and those of yellowfin at EUR 2,600/t CFR Spain.
