 This report focuses on catch volumes of tuna, shark and swordfish in Japanese waters. It also highlights prices, inventories, markets, imports and exports of species detailed in the following index.

Markets
Total imports of tuna in August, fresh and frozen, reached about 19,980 tonnes, with a value at Japanese Customs of JPY 14,514 million. These figures are up 19% in volume and 39% in value on those of July and compared with those of August 2016, the volume is up 30% and and so is the value by 35%.
Imports of fresh tuna during the month reached 1,515 tonnes with a value of JPY 2,115 million at Japanese Customs, up 11% in volume and 12% in value on those of the previous month, and up 1% in volume and 4% in value on those of August 2016.

As regards frozen tuna, imports during the month reported 18,465 tonnes, worth JPY 12,398 million at Japanese Customs.
These figures are up 20% in volume and 44% in value on those of the previous month and compared with those of August 2016, the volume is up 33% and the value is up 42%.
