Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus)
Prices
The average price of Japanese imports of frozen bigeye was JPY 694 in September, up 1% on that of the previous month and down 18% on that of September 2018.
During the first nine months, the average was JPY 759/kg, down 8% on that of the same period last year.

The price of fresh bigeye in markets in Japan, as of September 1st, had a minimum of JPY 1,100/kg.

Markets
During the month analysed, imports of frozen bigeye reached 4,154 tonnes, worth JPY 3,638 million, down 1% in volume and similar in value on those registered in the previous month and up 40% in volume and 19% in value on those of September 2018.

During the period, imports totalled 39,819 tonnes and JPY 30,226 million, up 1% in volume and 7% in value on those of the same period last year.
The 55% of imports were from Taiwan (21,719 tonnes) while those from China amounted to 23% (8,911 tonnes).
