SalmoBreed manages to boost salmon sea lice resistance

SalmoBreed has achieved a breakthrough by adopting a new genetic method in aquaculture to improve salmon pancreas disease (PD) and sea lice resistance. The firm ensures this achievement will make it possible for the industry to gain significant savings.
The method, called Genomic Selection, makes it possible for the breeding values for selection of parent broodfish to be calculated using both phenotypic data and information from a large number of DNA markers.
