IN BRIEF - Lobster catch up 80 per cent this season
(AUSTRALIA, 10/19/2011)
Southern rock lobster fishing crews say their catch is up to 80 per cent higher than last year. The season opened a month earlier this year off the South Australian coast.
Joel Redmann from the South-East Professional Fisherman's Association says it is the best catch rate in about four years and lobsters are fetching between AUD 50-70 per kilogram. "Decent catch rates combined with reasonable prices is certainly something that we aspire to year in, year out and it's something we haven't had for the last three or four years," he said.
"We've had poor catch rates, we had little bit better prices at times but obviously the combination of the two is what we like to see."
