SalmonChile companies invested US$ 11.5 million in R&D projects

The figure, which is part of the SalmonChile Sustainability Report that will be published at the end of the month, reinforces the commitment of salmon farmers to incorporate new technologies into their production and environmental processes.
 
The salmon-producing companies associated with SalmonChile invested US$11.5 million in 2021 in projects and initiatives associated with R&D&i, which represents 7.6 times more than the figure corresponding to 2020, demonstrating the efforts that the sector salmon farmer is doing to incorporate new technologies into its production and environmental processes.
 
Currently, 60% of the member companies of the guild have a management structure, leadership or department dedicated to innovation activities, which is complemented by the more than 7 thousand small and medium-sized companies that supply the activity and develop innovative solutions. for this sector, whose salmon is present in more than 100 markets.
 
“This indicator of the VII Sustainability Report demonstrates the importance that our productive sector is giving to new initiatives and projects, in order to generate developments and research to be able to advance in matters that we previously had no way of solving. Today, research, development and innovation (R+D+i) projects are one of the pillars for aquaculture that we think about the future," said the president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément.
 
For his part, the general manager of the Technological Institute of Salmon, Esteban Ramírez, pointed out that "one of the main focuses that we have been working on has been the promotion of innovation as a way of solving gaps, and in this report we can account for that companies are making decisive progress in structuring their R&D&i areas, 60% have formal areas and investments of US$ 11.5 million were recorded in projects associated with this matter, which makes us very proud”.
 
Next publication of the Sustainability Report
 
The indicator presented is part of the VII Sustainability Report, a document that the union has been publishing continuously for 7 years as part of its policy of transparency and good practices.

On this occasion, the document will be presented at the end of the month in a joint effort with the member companies and contains new data, in order to strengthen it and deliver more information to the public opinion. Among other indicators, the report accounts for environmental, health and social aspects, such as the link with the communities, and the incorporation of the indicator of employees by gender that exists in the salmon farming sector.
 
The president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément, pointed out that the report that will be published at the end of the month "illustrates the importance of this productive sector and, at the same time, reaffirms our commitment to transparency and to showing the advances in relevant matters for salmon farming. , such as the link with the communities and health, social and environmental performance. With this information we can continue advancing in the challenges that we have with a decentralizing and sustainable perspective”.
