Decrease in imports of boiled frozen whelk meat by 12%

In May 2022, a total of 538,472 tons of seafood were imported, and the proportion of boiled frozen whelk meat was 0.32%, 1,727 tons, and in 2021, 0.47% (1,972 tons out of 418,131 tons) was imported.

The average import volume for May from 2017 to 2022 was 531 tons, and among the last six years, the highest amount of boiled frozen whelk meat was imported in 2017 (2,135 tons) and the lowest in 2019 (1,568 tons).

In May 2022, the import volume of boiled frozen whelk meat was 497 tons, up 6% from 470 tons the previous year and accumulated volume until May was 1,727 tons, which was a decrease of 12% from 1,972 tons the previous year.

66% (1,161 tons) of the total volume was imported from the UK, which is the main exporting country of boiled frozen whelk meat meat, 22% (387 tons) from Ireland, and 10% (168 tons) from Russia and average import price for each country was Russia USD 14.43/kg, which was the highest, the UK USD 11.31/kg, and Ireland USD 10.19/kg, the lowest.

In May 2022, the import amount of boiled frozen whelk meat was USD 5.17 million, a decrease of 12% from USD 5.86 million in the previous year, and the cumulative import amount was USD 55.64 million, showing a 135% increase from USD 23.65 million in the previous year.
