Opens five support pools totaling DKK 112.8 million. DKK (USD 16.28 M), which will help make Denmark one of the leading nations in the green transformation of the fishing and aquaculture industry.
Now it is again possible to apply for support for projects that contribute to a green transformation of the fishing and aquaculture industry and strengthen the economy of coastal fishing. In May 2024, five pools of a total of DKK 112.8 million will open. DKK (USD 16.28 M) The money comes from the Danish Marine, Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme.
This is a reopening of the pools, which will promote climate and environmental improvement solutions as well as strengthen the development of coastal and gentle fishing. It is also possible to apply for grants for measures that can remove ghost nets that pollute the marine environment and kill marine animals.
The green solutions must both help Denmark reach its goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 70 per cent. towards 2030, and at the same time ensure that Denmark is among the leading nations in the green transformation of fisheries and aquaculture.
Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Jacob Jensen (V) says:

The marine environment is challenged, which creates difficult conditions for several fish stocks - especially in our inland waters. We live in a time where it is both expected and a necessity that new green solutions are developed that can reduce the climate footprint and environmental impact in all industries. We must help to support that, so that we can develop fishing in a more sustainable direction. Fishing is an important part of our food supply, and at the same time it contributes to local jobs in waterfront Denmark. That is why I am also pleased that we are now reopening the support pools with a total of DKK 112.8 million. DKK (USD 16.28 M), so that we can speed up sustainable solutions for both the fishing and aquaculture industries."
Facts:
- The support pools are part of the Danish Marine, Fisheries and Aquaculture Program for 2021-2027, which is co-financed by EU funds from the European Marine, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund.
- The green support pools must contribute to the development of solutions that have the potential for commercial expansion in the Danish fishing and aquaculture industry and to increase the incentive to make new, green investments. In addition, there is a focus on investigating new untested fisheries and new methods to optimize the catch, so that fishing can continue to pay.
- The support pools open for applications on 1 May 2024. They can be applied for by fishermen, aquaculture companies, research institutions, industry and producer organisations, etc.
About the grant schemes:
- 39.3 million DKK (USD 5..67 M) for investments in coastal fisheries.
- 50.3 million DKK (USD 7.26 M) for the green conversion of fisheries.
- 10.9 million DKK (USD 1.57 M) for the development of a green transformation of aquaculture.
- 7 million DKK (USD 1.01 M) for investment in the green transformation of aquaculture.
- 5.3 million DKK (USD 760,000) for efforts against marine litter.
