The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) decided to suspend the extractive activity of the hake resource (Merluccius gayi peruanus) carried out by industrial trawlers, between parallels 03 ° 30’S and 04 ° 00’S of the Peruvian maritime domain, for a period of seven calendar days.
The measure is effective from 00:00 on Friday, December 6.
The Ministerial Resolution published in the official newspaper El Peruano (RM 527-2019-PRODUCE) indicates that IMARPE recorded for three consecutive days bycatches that exceed 20% of individuals under 28 cm in total length, so it is necessary suspend the fishing activity in the maritime field recommended by this body, in order to maintain the conservation of the resource in line with its recovery process and contribute to the sustainability of the fishing activity.

IMARPE will carry out the monitoring and follow-up of the main biological, population and fishery indicators of the hake resource, prioritizing the monitoring actions on the incidence of specimens in sizes smaller than 28 cm, and should promptly inform and recommend the measures to the Ministry of Production of fisheries management.
