High school students achieve 'complete aquaculture' of grunt fish

Students from the Marine Bio Club of Kyoto Prefectural Kaiyo High School (Miyazu City Boss) have succeeded in completely cultivating the high-class fish, grunt (Parapristipoma Trilineatum ), which they have been working on for seven years.
The active high school students succeeded in the complete aquaculture of the high-class fish grunt . It is said that the success of complete aquaculture for high school students who do not have special know-how is the first in history.

It is said to be a representative of summer fish, and is characterized by fatty white meat. The juvenile has a yellow stripe pattern on its body surface. Compared to red sea bream and flatfish, the mouth is small immediately after hatching, so extremely small plankton is required for feeding, and it is said that seedling production is difficult. It takes 4 to 5 years to become an adult fish which reach a total length of 45 cm.
Why did high school students start grunt farming? Keigo Nakanishi "I'm collecting fishing at the pier." It is said that the reason was that seniors started raising grunt fry that they accidentally caught in front of the school for investigation. Seven years have passed since that day. The technique was handed down from seniors to juniors, and in June of this year, the current members succeeded in the first complete aquaculture. High school students who have fulfilled their dreams.

In August 2013, the students caught several juvenile grunts mixed with horse mackerel in a sabiki fishing conducted at the school's pier for investigation.Raised to adult fish while managing in June 2018, this adult fish was spawned and hatched, and was successfully cultivated completely. About 50 fry have grown to about 5 cm in length. It was bred in an aquarium in the school, and all 25 members were involved in the work.

Adult fish reach a total length of 45 cm. The body is slightly elongated spindle-shaped in the anterior-posterior direction and is laterally flattened. The body surface is dense with fine scales and is rough. The body color of adult fish is olive-brown, but young fish have three yellow vertical stripes on the upper half of the body side. These vertical stripes fade as they grow, but even in adult fish, vertical stripes appear in spring and summer.
It is distributed on the coast of Japan south of the Tohoku region , the Yellow Sea , the East China Sea , and the South China Sea
It inhabits reef areas with a lot of seaweed and forms a flock . It lurks to a depth of about 50m in the daytime, but at night it begins to swim near the surface of the sea. It is carnivorous and preys on small animals such as small fish, crustaceans, and polychaetes.
