Following on from the visit to the Falkland Islands of KOFA (Korea Overseas Fisheries Association) delegation that took place during May, their main Falkland Island partners, Dragon Fishing and Trading Company Ltd have recently visited Korea to meet up with KOFA and individual jigger owners.
Wendy Shelbourne, Director of Dragon, said the meetings were very positive and was delighted to report that Dragon’s partners in the Korea fleet have begun the construction of two new jiggers due for launch in November 2020, ready for the 2021 Illex season.
They are also in the process of planning for the construction of a further two new jiggers to be launched during 2021.
In readiness for the forthcoming Illex season, Dragon are currently supporting ‘crew health and safety at sea’ training in Montevideo. Crew is training with an MCA/ IMO certified instructor provided by Dragon.
