Central America decreases the percentage of shrimp sales to the US

In 2012, sales from Central America to the US of frozen shrimp and prawn represented 32% of the total, in 2020 that proportion decreased to 7%.
Regional sales drop 4%
Between 2019 and 2020, the exported value of frozen shrimp and prawn registered a 4% decrease, going from $ 325 million to $ 312 million.
Contrary to the behavior of regional sales in general, exports to the United Kingdom increased for the period in question, increasing from $ 50 million to $ 60 million.

Exports by country
In 2020, the main exporter of frozen shrimp and shrimp in Central America continued to be Honduras, with $ 245 million, followed by Nicaragua, with $ 36 million, Panama, with $ 17 million, and Costa Rica and Guatemala, with $ 7 million each.
Last year the sales of Guatemalan and Honduran companies increased in year-on-year terms by 56% and 3%, respectively. Nicaraguan exports decreased by 6%, Costa Rican by 31% and Panamanian by 46%.

Destination of exports
In 2020, 36% of the value exported from Central America was destined for Taiwan, 19% the United Kingdom, 8% Germany, 8% the Netherlands, the United States 7% and 5% Mexico.

Export price
Between January and December 2020, the average price per kilo of frozen shrimp and prawn exports by the countries of the region ranged between $ 7.38 and $ 6.43.
