Hakata Shoboan at Marunouchi, Tokyo
A popular mentaiko brand that has been in Hakata for over 30 years opens its first store in Tokyo

Shoboan is a spicy mentaiko brand made by Kubara Honke, which sells authentic dashi stock for home use, Kayanoya Dashi. On October the restaurant "Hakata Shoboan", where you can enjoy this special mentaiko, opened a Tokyo store for a limited time at Tokyo Station "Gransta Marunouchi". This store was opened in response to the voice of people saying, “I want to eat that mentaiko that I ate in Hakata in Tokyo.”

Shoboan was established in 1990 by Kubara Honke, a company that spreads Japanese food culture from Fukuoka, so that customers can enjoy the original flavor and texture of cod roe. For more than 30 years since then, it has been a precious flavor that was only sold in its hometown of Fukuoka (*excluding mail order and special events), but now you can enjoy it in Tokyo as well.
Their flagship product, mustard mentaiko, is made from pollock eggs from Hokkaido. This egg is slowly soaked in our own special sauce made with grilled agodashi to soak in the flavor. The elegant taste is perfect with freshly cooked white rice. I can eat many bowls of rice.
Hakata Shoboan is the only restaurant where you can enjoy the mentaiko of Shoboan. At the Tokyo store, we offer two types of set menus: "Hakata Mentai Zen Nori" and "Hakata Mentai Zen Kashiwa". Both of them contain a whole stick of specially made "Agoashi Mentaiko" soaked in agodashi.
"Nori" uses the first picking seaweed from Ariake. You can enjoy it by adding a spicy sauce to your liking. “Kashiwa” is chicken that is plump and finished with sweet homemade soy sauce, and spicy spicy mentaiko goes well with it. The red mustard roe, the yellow omelette, and the green green mustard greens make for a vibrant dish.
In addition, "Agodashi Mentaiko Umakuchi" is specially sold at the Tokyo store for a limited time. A chance to casually enjoy the mustard mentaiko of Hakata's specialty "Shobouan", which has been loved in its hometown of Hakata, in Tokyo. How about going out in a travel mood?
