Prices
The average CIF price at Customs of Japanese imports of Alaska pollock surimi or (Gadus chalcogrammus) in July was JPY 373/kg, value 7% lower than the previous month and 10% higher to July last year. The average price at Customs of itoyori surimi during the analysed month was JPY 336/kg, down 1% on that of the previous month and up 1% on that of July 2018.

Markets
In June the Japanese customs figures indicated that surimi imports were 5,522 tonnes worth JPY 1,962 million.
These figures are down 34% in volume and 40% in value on those of the previous month and down 8% in volume and similar in value on those of July 2018.

Imports of Alaskan pollock or colìn surimi (Gadus chalcogrammus) in the first seven months of the year total 52,376 tonnes and JPY 19,702 million, 4% lower volume and 9% more in value than in the same period from the previous year. Imports of itoyori surimi reached 10,910 tonnes and JPY 3,691 million, down 15% in volume and 14% value on those of the previous year.
Imports of other surimis (Pacific cod) were up 18%, 3,500 tonnes.
Alaskan pollock surimi (Gadus chalcogrammus) came entirely from the United States, while Itoyori came mostly from Thailand (4,485 tonnes) and India (2,647 tonnes).

Markets
Thai exports of surimi in the first seven months of 2019 were 20% higher in volume than in the same period of the previous year. During the period, exports to Japan and Russia registered an increase in volume of 22%, 30 and 33% respectively.
