Prices
The average CIF price at Customs of Japanese imports of Alaska pollock surimi or (Gadus chalcogrammus) in Septemner was JPY 352/kg, value 2% higher than the previous month and 6% higher to September last year. The average price at Customs of itoyori surimi during the analysed month was JPY 337/kg, similar on that of the previous month and down 1% on that of September 2018.

Markets
In September the Japanese customs figures indicated that surimi imports were 17,123 tonnes worth JPY 5,979 million.
These figures are up 99% in volume and 104% in value on those of the previous month and down 4% in volume and 2% in value on those of September last year.

Imports of Alaska pollock or colìn surimi (Gadus chalcogrammus) in the first nine months of the year total 74,634 tonnes and JPY 27,476 million, 7% lower volume and 3% more in value than in the same period from the previous year. Imports of itoyori surimi reached 12,906 tonnes and JPY 4,364 million, down 13% in volume and 12% value on those of the previous year.
Imports of other surimis (Pacific cod) was similar in volyme, 4,986 tonnes.
Alaska pollock surimi (Gadus chalcogrammus) came entirely from the United States, while Itoyori came mostly from Thailand (5,527 tonnes) and India (2,951 tonnes).
