This week more than 2 dozen tuna fishing nations meet in Lima, Peru to propose, debate, and agree to management measures for eastern Pacific Ocean fisheries. Among the most pressing conservation issues is the plight of Pacific bluefin tuna.

After decades of overfishing, the population hovers at just 4 percent of its original size, and the unsustainably high catch of juveniles—the smallest fish—threatens the species’ continued existence.
