Russian fisheries exceed 2.8 million tons of seafood harvest so far this year

The Federal Agency for Fisheries highlights the leadership of the Far Eastern Basin and announces state subsidies for the Azov-Black Sea sector

According to the Industry Monitoring System of the Federal Agency for Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo), as of August 3, 2026, Russian fishermen harvested 2,896.7 thousand tons of aquatic bioresources, excluding wild salmon catches from the Far East.

Far Eastern Basin

In this region, the total cumulative volume stands at 2,287.6 thousand tons (excluding wild salmon), distributed mainly among the following species:

  • Alaska pollock (Theragra chalcogramma): 1,429.0 thousand tons

  • Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus): 84.1 thousand tons (+0.7 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

  • Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii): 456.8 thousand tons (+132.2 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

  • Far Eastern flounder (Pleuronectidae): 44.2 thousand tons

In this same basin, the Pacific salmon fishing season is currently underway, recording a total catch of 61,637 metric tons as of August 3, 2026. The breakdown by species is as follows:

  • Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha): 33,795 tons

  • Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta): 14,152 tons

  • Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka): 13,447 tons

  • Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha): 146 tons

  • Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch): 54 tons

  • Masu salmon (Oncorhynchus masou): 44 tons

By administrative division, Pacific salmon catches are distributed as follows:

  • Kamchatka Krai: 41,816 tons

  • Khabarovsk Krai: 11,738 tons

  • Sakhalin Oblast: 4,279 tons

  • Magadan Oblast: 2,497 tons

  • Primorsky Krai: 1,009 tons

  • Chukotka Autonomous Okrug: 298 tons

Northern Basin

Total catches in the area reached 220.9 thousand tons:

  • Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua): 102.2 thousand tons

  • Haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus): 48.6 thousand tons (+9.5 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

Western Basin

The cumulative volume reached 49.7 thousand tons:

  • European sprat (Sprattus sprattus): 36.6 thousand tons (+2.8 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

  • Baltic herring (Clupea harengus membras): 12.0 thousand tons

Azov-Black Sea Basin

The region recorded a landing of 20.5 thousand tons:

  • European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus): 12.4 thousand tons

To support this sector, the Government of the Russian Federation will allocate approximately 240 million rubles to support more than 30 fisheries organizations operating in the Azov-Black Sea basin. The funds will be used to partially reimburse operating expenses, helping maintain enterprise sustainability and employment in the industry. The bulk of the funding is earmarked for Sevastopol (over 139 million rubles), Krasnodar Krai (over 63 million rubles), and the Republic of Crimea (approximately 37 million rubles). Rosrybolovstvo will enter into subsidy agreements with the regions, followed by the selection of eligible organizations.

Volga-Caspian Basin

Harvesting operations totaled 40.5 thousand tons:

  • Caspian sprat (Sprattus): 14.2 thousand tons

  • Freshwater and estuarine fish species: 9.7 thousand tons (+0.3 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

Foreign EEZs and High Seas

In the exclusive economic zones of foreign states, conventional areas, and the open part of the World Ocean, the Russian fishing fleet recorded a catch of 262.721 thousand tons.
