Russian Fishermen Exceed 3 Million Tonnes of Catch So Far This Year

The Far Eastern Basin leads national fishing activity, accounting for nearly 80% of total catches in the country.

According to data registered by the industry monitoring system of the Federal Agency for Fisheries (ISFRE), as of August 10, Russian fishermen achieved a catch volume of 3,012.3 thousand tonnes of aquatic biological resources, not including the Far Eastern wild salmon catches, which will be detailed separately.

Commercial Pacific salmon fishing in the Russian Far East is experiencing a marked slowdown compared to previous cycles. According to the latest data from the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), cumulative landings reached 73,879 metric tons through August 11, 2026, reflecting a 60.9% decrease compared to the reference periods used for biological and fisheries evaluation.

Northern Basin: 226.1 thousand tonnes

• Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua): 104.2 thousand tonnes

• Haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus): 49.7 thousand tonnes (+8.9 thousand tonnes compared to 2025)

Western Basin: 50.1 thousand tonnes

• European sprat (Sprattus sprattus): 33.6 thousand tonnes (+2.5 thousand tonnes compared to 2025)

• Baltic herring (Clupea harengus membras): 12.3 thousand tonnes
