Subsidiary Nantong Runbang Ocean Engineering Equipment enters an agreement with a European shipowner for up to six advanced 4,500 m³ vessels designed to enhance aquaculture logistics and animal welfare.
Jiangsu Runbang Heavy Industry, through its subsidiary Nantong Runbang Ocean Engineering Equipment, has signed a shipbuilding contract with a European shipowner specializing in fishing and maritime operations. The agreement includes the construction of up to six specialized vessels for transporting live seafood, according to details disclosed by the company on the CNINFO platform.
The total estimated value of the contract, which includes both firm orders and option vessels, ranges between 2.8 billion yuan (US$ 389.2 million) and 3.3 billion yuan (US$ 458.7 million). While the buyer's identity remains confidential due to commercial reasons, the company described the entity as a well-known European firm in the marine fishing engineering sector.

The selection of the Chinese shipyard follows a comprehensive and systematic evaluation process. Frøy conducted a broad international shipyard competition with 17 shipyards involved throughout 2025. In parallel, technical, financial and integrity assessments have been carried out with the support of leading external advisors.
– This is a decision we have spent a long time evaluating. We have carried out a very thorough process together with strong professional communities and advisors to ensure that we make the right choice for our customers, our employees and our owners. We believe we have found a shipyard that gives us access to world-leading construction capacity combined with the quality and control we require,, says Tonje Foss, CEO of Frøy Group.
Each planned vessel will feature a live transport capacity of 4,500 m³, with technical specifications measuring 87.10 meters in length overall and 20.60 meters in beam. The design incorporates a circulation and thermal control system of approximately 3,000 m³, critical equipment redundancy, cargo piping with a diameter of 600 millimeters, and advanced continuous water quality monitoring systems. Furthermore, the vessels will integrate reverse osmosis equipment to produce fresh water and enable high-temperature sanitary treatments.
The vessels will be classified by DNV, designed by a specialized European engineering firm, and equipped with international live fish handling technologies. The primary objective of this infrastructure is to minimize stress levels and mortality during loading, transport, and discharge operations, thereby maintaining biosecurity and final product quality.

Specialized infrastructure for marine aquaculture
This order coincides with the global expansion of marine aquaculture and the growing demand for efficient logistics solutions tailored to high-value species. These live fish carriers facilitate connections between farming sites, grow-out facilities, processing plants, and target markets while optimizing thermal and sanitary control over long distances.
For Runbang, this contract marks a strategic advancement in solidifying its international footprint within the offshore vessel segment and specialized equipment for the blue economy by integrating naval construction, water treatment, and animal welfare technologies.

Operational terms and risk assessment
The delivery schedule establishes that staggered handovers will commence 29 months after the contract formally comes into effect. The definitive activation of the agreement remains subject to precedent conditions, including the receipt of the initial down payment from the buyer.
Regarding the maximum projected revenue of 3.3 billion yuan (US$ 458.7 million), the company clarified that a portion corresponds to purchase options whose final execution depends on the buyer's discretion. Additionally, the project remains exposed to standard industrial execution risks and foreign exchange fluctuations associated with currency settlement. Runbang confirmed it holds no corporate affiliation with the buyer and validated the shipowner's capacity to fulfill the contractual obligations.
