The production of the fishing sector registered an increase of 48.05% in June of this year compared to the same month of 2019; informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (Inei), in the technical report of the Conjunctural Advance of Economic Activity.

This result was supported by the largest landings of species of maritime origin (51.07%), mainly those aimed at indirect human consumption (fishmeal and fish oil). In June 2020, the anchovy catch amounted to 1,331,000 tons, which compared to the catch registered in June last year (679,000 tons) had a positive variation of 95.9%.

Conversely, fishing for direct human consumption decreased (-33.02%) due to the lower catch of species destined for consumption in the fresh (-39%), canned (-28.8%) and frozen (-28.2%). On the other hand, fishing of continental origin decreased by 6.64%.

Other results

According to the technical report on the Economic Advancement of Inei's Economic Activity, the production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector decreased by 14.44%; explained by the negative behavior of the metallic mining subsectors (-13.55%) and hydrocarbons (-19.69%).

The hydrocarbon subsector decreased by 19.69% due to the lower level of exploitation of crude oil (-40.1%), natural gas (-25.8%) and natural gas liquids (-3.3%).

Production of the Electricity subsector decreased by 5.98% due to the lower generation of energy of thermoelectric origin (-11.56%) and hydroelectricity (-1.68%); however, the generation of renewable energy increased (7.38%).

For its part, loans granted to companies last June totaled 217.180 million soles, registering a significant increase of 24.38%, compared to the same month of 2019.

Likewise, mortgage loans in June of this year increased by 5.86%, totaling 49.856 million soles when compared with the same month of the previous year and; consumer loans totaled 53,705 million soles, an amount that meant an increase of 2.71%.
