This will allow greater competitiveness in the market and a reduction in costs that will benefit smaller scale and artisanal vessels.

The Ministry of Production published Supreme Decree No. 009-2024-PRODUCE that modifies the Regulation of the Satellite Tracking System for fishing vessels (SISESAT), which will allow expanding the market of suppliers of this technology in the country.

It should be indicated that this Supreme Decree will come into force thirty calendar days from its publication in the official newspaper El Peruano.

"The standard seeks to increase competitiveness in the market that allows expanding the offer of suitable satellite providers, with the aim of promoting a cost reduction in the satellite tracking service, which will mainly benefit artisanal and smaller-scale fishing," the Minister of Production, Sergio González highlighted.

Likewise, with Ministerial Resolution No. 282-2024-PRODUCE, the minimum technical specifications to be a suitable satellite provider indicated in Annex 2 of the aforementioned Regulation were modified, which contemplates the following aspects: (i) Adequacy of the technical conditions for the satellite providers (ii) Inclusion of the technical specifications of the alternative equipment or system.

This amendment will allow the inclusion of an alternative system or equipment, at a lower cost, mainly aimed at artisanal vessels that are required to have said equipment, which must be capable of transmitting data through satellite communication equipment or using the Very High Frequency (VHF) marine band.

It should be noted that these changes will allow greater traceability of fishing vessels, fishing areas and the extraction of hydrobiological resources, complying with the required international standards, allowing in turn to strengthen measures to prevent, discourage and eliminate illegal fishing. declared and unregulated (IUU).

In this way, PRODUCE prioritizes the improvement of SISESAT, allowing the operations of fishing vessels to be monitored, also providing a tool that contributes to the safety of fishermen at the national level.
