Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) prices remained stable with a slight downward trend in most of the country's main producing regions in Brazil during the week of June 8 to 12, 2026.

According to the latest survey by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), four of the five monitored markets registered a decline in prices paid to independent producers.

Price Disparity Between Producing Regions

Statistical data reveals a significant economic gap within the Brazilian territory, reaching a difference of R$ 1.66 per kilogram (approximately US$ 0.31 per kilo) between different commercial areas.

The Northern Paraná region leads national values with the highest quotation, standing at R$ 10.46 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.94 per kilo), despite experiencing a moderate decline. In contrast, Western Paraná, considered the country's main aquaculture hub, registered the lowest price across the entire monitoring system, settling at R$ 8.80 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.63 per kilo).

Sector experts explain that this sharp fluctuation responds directly to production concentration, variable logistics costs, processing capacity of industrial plants, and specific regional dynamics of supply and demand. In Western Paraná, for example, the high density of producers and specialized meatpacking plants allows for efficient economies of scale, although it also exerts downward pressure on prices during periods of high supply.

Detailed Market Behavior

The breakdown of commercial performance by region during the mentioned period of June 8 to 12 is detailed below:

  • Morada Nova de Minas (MG): Registered the largest percentage drop of the week, with a decrease of 0.21%, closing the average value at R$ 9.57 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.77 per kilo).

  • Western Paraná: Presented a reduction of 0.18%, consolidating the national minimum price of R$ 8.80 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.63 per kilo).

  • Great Lakes Region: This area, which encompasses the northwest of the state of São Paulo and borders with Mato Grosso do Sul, recorded a decline of 0.16%, setting its value at R$ 10.02 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.86 per kilo).

  • Northern Paraná: Showed the most moderate drop at 0.10%, nonetheless maintaining the price leadership at R$ 10.46 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.94 per kilo).

  • Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba: Was the only market that reported no variations, maintaining absolute stability at R$ 10.23 per kilo (approx. US$ 1.90 per kilo).

Aquaculture Market Outlook

Although weekly fluctuations remained within narrow margins, the seafood sector is closely monitoring market developments. The industry is currently seeking to balance the sustained growth of production with the pace of domestic consumption.

Analysts point out that the evolution of sales in the domestic market, export performance, and, critically, production input costs—particularly feed—will be the determining factors guiding tilapia prices in the coming months.
