Total domestic and international harvest climbs to nearly two million tons as multiple regional basins report significant growth over last year

A sweeping surge in maritime production has pushed the total catch of aquatic bioresources by all Russian users to more than 1,887,700 tons as of May 18 , according to the latest data from the Federal Agency for Fisheries' industry monitoring system ( Rosrybolovstvo ). The rapid pace of the seasonal harvest puts the country's fishing sectors well on track to eclipsing the two-million-ton mark ahead of schedule.

The regional breakdown reveals distinct operational successes across independent fishing zones, alongside strong contributions from long-range international fleets.

Far Eastern Fishery Basin

The vast majority of the national total originated in the Far Eastern waters, which brought in a massive 1,545.1 thousand tons of seafood. The basin's output was heavily driven by a booming pollock season, anchored by several key species:

  • Pollock: 1,091.1 thousand tons

  • Pacific herring: 257.6 thousand tons (marking an increase of 2.8 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

  • Cod: 55.5 thousand tons

  • Far Eastern flounder: 24.8 thousand tons

Northern Fishery Basin

Operations in the Northern basin yielded 138.3 thousand tons , reflecting an upward swing of 2.6 thousand tons over the same period in 2025. Cod and haddock remained the dominant targets for regional trawlers:

  • Cod: 68.3 thousand tons

  • Haddock: 33.7 thousand tons (surging by 10.4 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

Western Fishery Basin

Fishermen working the Western basin secured 42.6 thousand tons , outperforming the previous year's mark by 4 thousand tons . Small pelagic species drove the positive margins:

  • Sprat: 32.8 thousand tons (up by 7 thousand tons compared to the 2025 level)

  • Baltic herring: 8.7 thousand tons

Volga-Caspian Fishery Basin

In the inland waters of the Volga-Caspian region, fleets successfully harvested 26.8 thousand tons of aquatic bioresources. A single key species made up nearly half of the local volume:

  • Sprat: 12.6 thousand tons

Azov-Black Sea Fishery Basin

The southern operations within the Azov-Black Sea basin brought in a total of 16.3 thousand tons . The regional catch was overwhelmingly dominated by a single species:

  • Anchovy: 12.4 thousand tons

International and Deep-Sea Operations

Beyond domestic territorial waters, the high-seas segment of the Russian fleet demonstrated significant global reach. Deployments stretching into the exclusive economic zones of foreign states, highly regulated conventional areas, and the open expanses of the World Ocean successfully extracted 112,548 thousand tons of bioresources, further solidifying the nation's footprint in international seafood supply chains.
