Prosol (Grand Frais) finalizes the acquisition of Océalliance

 The Perceva fund leaves the capital of Océalliance, which is sold to the company Prosol, the leading shareholder of GIE Grand Frais, the manager of some 260 stores under this brand.
Announced a few weeks ago, it has just been signed after having received the approval of the Competition Authority. For a valuation of 90 million euros, the Perceva fund leaves the capital of the wholesale group Océalliance, whose head office is located in Lorient (Morbihan). 100% of its shares are sold to Prosol, creator of the GIE Grand Frais which manages 260 stores under this brand.
Prosol, whose Ardian fund dominates the capital, runs the main departments at Grand Frais, namely fruit, vegetables, dairy and fish. The Lyonnais, who does not wish to speak, probably takes over Océalliance to guarantee a regular supply of fish and seafood, a department considered to be increasingly strategic.
Océalliance, which should generate a turnover of 225 million euros this year for 500 employees, makes its purchases of fresh fish in 33 of the French auctions distributed between the ports of Boulogne-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-de -Luz. It then processes the fish landed by the trawlers in its 25 fish trading workshops. They are filleted, packaged and delivered fresh, but also frozen and cooked for elaborate recipes.
2,200 active customers for Océalliance
Océalliance reports 2,200 active customers, particularly in mass distribution, but also fishmongers and wholesalers. Guénolé Merveilleux, the CEO of Océalliance, indicates in a press release that this operation “will make it possible to accelerate the deployment of our offers on our various channels”. In other words, Prosol is not intended to become the sole client of the wholesaler, who has an establishment in Glasgow, Scotland. Named Angelbond, it helps supply Océalliance with high-end products such as lobster and scallops.
Prosol needs all the more to secure its purchases as Grand Frais displays very strong ambitions in France and Europe, particularly in Italy. Prosol estimates that the potential of Grand Frais is around 800 stores. To date, the brand opens about twenty a year, in large cities but also in sectors where the catchment area is smaller, as was recently the case in Saint-Quay-Perros, near Lannion and soon in Vannes, despite opposition from the municipality.
Grand Frais settles on spaces of less than 1,000 m² of sales area, which does not require a passage in the Departmental Commission for commercial development, to the chagrin of certain elected officials and local traders opposed to this concept modeled on the fashion covered markets.
