Mackerel imports fall in Korea

Frozen mackerel import value fall 36%
A total of 435,571 tons of seafood were imported by April 2022, and 30,858 tons, or 7.1% of frozen mackerel, were imported, which is lower than the 10.7% (37,895 tons out of 352,994 tons) in 2021.
In April, frozen mackerel import volume were to 7,092 tons, down 41% from 12,020 tons a year earlier, and cumulative imports amounted to 18,826 tons, down 50% from 37,895 tons a year earlier.
The average import amount in April from 2017 to 2022 is 5,034 tons, and the import amount of frozen mackerel was the largest in 2021 (37,895 tons) and the smallest in 2017 (18,342 tons).
There are a total of nine countries exporting frozen mackerel to Korea, with 28,345 tons imported from Norway, 1,524 tons from China, 341 tons from the Netherlands, 178 tons from Russia, 143 tons from Germany and 119 tons from the UK.
The average import unit price by country was the highest at USD 2.47/kg for both Norway and the UK, with USD 2.03/kg for China, USD 2.16/kg for the Netherlands, and USD 0.94/kg for the Russian.
The import amount of frozen mackerel was USD 7.09 million, down 41% from USD 12.02 million a year ago, and the average import price was USD 2.41/kg, up 37% from USD 1.75/kg a year ago.
The cumulative import amount was USD 18.82 million, down 36% from USD 71.2 million last year, and the import unit price was USD 2.43/kg, up 26% from USD 1.88/kg last year.
