The application process for these funds is done through the website of the Chinquihue Foundation, the entity in charge of the program. There are four lines of financing.

Increasing the income of artisanal fishermen in the region, helping to improve their socio-economic conditions, is the main objective of the program "Transfer in crops in management areas and aquaculture concessions, with benthic species and algueras and adding value to fisheries production artisanal ”, which is executed by the Chinquihue Foundation and financed by the Los Lagos Regional Government through the National Fund for Regional Development (FNDR).

Óscar Leibbrandt, Manager (s) of Fundación Chinquihue, explained that “this program is aimed at all artisanal fishermen in the Los Lagos Region, regardless of whether they are engaged in artisanal fishing itself or small-scale aquaculture”.

Leibbrandt indicated that "the Los Lagos Region concentrates just over 36% of the country's artisanal fishermen, which makes us the main fishing area nationwide." Consistent with this background is that “this program consists of implementing a process of accompaniment for our artisanal fishermen in order to strengthen and consolidate initiatives that present potential beyond the activities they regularly carry out. Basically, we are betting on the diversification of this economic activity in order to promote sustainable and self-managed businesses, all supported by the production of food with added value ”.

The manager of Fundación Chinquihue indicated that the beneficiaries will receive the help of a professional from the entity he heads, who will be in charge of supporting the beneficiary in the implementation and technical monitoring of the project.

Postulation

The application process for the program is carried out under the Open Window modality and the evaluation and allocation of funds will be carried out by a council for this instance, which will be made up of professionals from institutions and organizations from the public-private sphere.

There are four lines of financing, which are detailed below.

1.- Commissioning of plants and / or process modules for products from artisanal fishing organizations.

2.- Implementation of new process modules, exclusively marine macroalgae, from artisanal fishing organizations.

3.- Diversification of species in crops of artisanal fishing organizations.

4.- Support for initiatives by women entrepreneurs, constituted in Family Micro Businesses (MEF).

Organizations and their members must contribute a minimum of 1% in cash of the amount assigned to the project, if approved. It is also feasible to incorporate valued contributions, that is, not necessarily in money but in material or other goods.

Base Organizations of Artisanal Fishermen or a group of no less than 8 members, endorsed by their respective organization, and who expressly express their intention to constitute a legally constituted business unit, may apply to this program.

Organizations can only apply to one of the four available lines and the maximum project execution period is 18 months. Proposals must be submitted exclusively through the Fundación Chinquihue website.
