After a few days of bad weather, the fifteen vessels around St. Kilda have been fishing for blue whiting
- We are pleased that the fleet got to work yesterday and expect some sign-ups now during Easter, says sales manager Kenneth Garvik of the Sildelaget.
The weather reports also look good a few days ahead, according to Garvik.
Including flex quota, the Norwegian fleet had just under 374,000 tonnes of blue whiting available for fishing this year, of which 282,000 tonnes have now been fished, but around 92,000 left. Part of this will be fished by industrial trawlers in the North Sea.
- We have 4-5 vessels fishing in the "edge", says Garvik, referring to Piraja who reported 260 tonnes of Norway pout on Sunday.
April 15 is the opening date for this year'ssand eel fishing where a quota of 70,000 tonnes has been set so far and Garvik expects that the industrial fleet will then switch to this fishing.
