Vietnam's Pangasius Exports in February 2025: Key Markets Regain Momentum

According to Vietnam Customs, in February 2025, Vietnam's pangasius exports to markets regained growth momentum.
.png) According to Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's pangasius exports showed strong recovery in February 2025, with export turnover reaching $150 million, a 66% increase compared to February 2024. Cumulative exports for the first two months of the year totaled $284 million, marking an 11% rise over the same period last year, as reported by Ms. Thu Hang, editor of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
China & Hong Kong: Leading Import Markets
China and Hong Kong remained the largest importers of Vietnamese pangasius, with February 2025 exports reaching $36 million, a 56% increase year-over-year. However, the total export value for the first two months fell 11% compared to last year, largely due to a decline in January, when Vietnam observed an extended Lunar New Year holiday.
CPTPP Bloc Overtakes the US as Second-Largest Market
 The CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) bloc has now surpassed the United States as the second-largest market for Vietnamese pangasius. In the first two months of 2025, exports to CPTPP countries reached $53 million, reflecting a 42% increase from the previous year. February alone saw a remarkable surge, with exports reaching $29 million, up 128% year-over-year.
United States: Holding Steady Amid Policy Changes
The United States dropped to third place among top pangasius importers. However, February exports reached $22 million, up 37% from 2024, while the cumulative total for the first two months stood at $39 million, reflecting a 16% increase.
The US remains a critical market for Vietnam’s pangasius industry. However, since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House and the reintroduction of “America First” trade policies, uncertainties loom over future trade relations. The impact of potential tariffs and trade restrictions remains unpredictable, but China’s growing tilapia exports to the US are becoming an increasingly hot topic in the industry.
Brazil: A Market on the Rise
 Vietnam’s pangasius exports to Brazil continued their impressive growth, with February 2025 turnover reaching $15 million—up 159% from the previous year. The cumulative total for January and February stood at $28 million, reflecting a 42% increase year-over-year.
European Union: Continued Expansion
Exports to the European Union also maintained an upward trend, with February turnover reaching nearly $13 million, up 61% compared to February 2024. Cumulative exports for January and February totaled $26 million, reflecting a 24% increase.
The Netherlands remains the EU’s largest importer of Vietnamese pangasius, with a 24% growth rate in the first two months of 2025.
Outlook for 2025: Opportunities and Challenges Ahead
 Vietnam’s pangasius industry is expected to continue its growth trajectory in 2025, driven by farmers and fisheries advancing aquaculture, processing, and export activities. However, the sector faces new challenges, including market fluctuations, competitive pressures, and geopolitical uncertainties.
