As a major marine city, Zhoushan has always been one of the dominant fishing industries, with more than 4,000 practitioners. However, compared with some coastal areas in China, the development of the seawater seed industry in Zhoushan lags relatively behind, restricting the efficiency of fishing and increasing the income of fishermen.

How to better manage the ocean and fill the "blue barn" with locally grown mariculture varieties in Zhoushan?
Fan Guofeng, representative of the Municipal People's Congress and chairman of Zhoushan Xifeng Aquatic Products Co., Ltd., appealed after the investigation: the city should speed up the high-quality development of the seawater seed industry and inject new explosive points in the high- quality development of fishing.
The development of mariculture "chips" is imminent
Fan Guofeng has been in the aquatic industry for 37 years and is a true "old fisherman" in Zhoushan. As a representative of the Municipal People's Assembly, since he assumed his duties, he has presented multiple proposals on the fishing development of our city. Last year, he focused his attention on the development shortcomings of Zhoushan's marine aquaculture seed industry and conducted in-depth visits and investigations.
"How to increase the efficiency of fishing and increase the income of fishermen is an important issue facing the development of marine fisheries in our city," said Fan Guofeng, arguing that related industrial chains driven by the mariculture industry they play an important role in the development of the city's marine economy.

According to statistics, there are more than 4,000 mariculture practitioners in our city. In 2021, the city's mariculture area will be 3,926 hectares, with a breeding output of 285,500 tons and a total output value of 2.597 million yuan.
On the other hand, the total production of marine fishing in our city has been declining year by year, and a large number of fishermen are facing a change of industry, the mariculture industry provides ample space for fishermen to continue to “farm ” the ocean.
Only good seedlings can produce good aquatic products. However, there is a real problem in front of our eyes: the seawater seed industry, which is in the upper reaches of the mariculture industry chain, is the core and foundation of the development of the mariculture industry. mariculture. It is equivalent to the "chip" of the mariculture industry, but it has become a lack in our city.

Representative Fan Guofeng's research found that although the city's mariculture seed industry has achieved considerable development in recent years, there are still some problems and weaknesses, mainly lagging protection of marine germplasm resources, lack of close connection of various links in the seed industry chain and research support Insufficient capacity and the special marine environment make it difficult to form a standard seed industry chain.
"For example, the production of mariculture seedlings in our city is generally affected by factors such as weather and water temperature. Many seedlings have a hard time surviving the winter and the cost is high. In addition, it is difficult to obtain broodstock as large yellow croaker Adequate production and supply capacity of improved varieties.”

"Compared with Liaoning, Shandong, Fujian, Guangdong and other provinces, as well as Ningbo and Wenzhou in the province, the seawater seed industry in our city has a big gap," Fan Guofeng said, appealing to the seawater aquaculture seed industry is another key to the development of high-quality fisheries in the future. "It is imperative to excavate, protect and utilize Zhoushan's fishery resources, and speed up the high-quality development of the marine aquaculture seed industry."
