Its owner assured this when he considered that the sector must remain united with an agenda of consensus in the current situation of the industry, and that the distribution of quotas would cause a diaspora due to the crossed interests in the activity. De la Fuente said that "we must not lose focus on the problems we are having today."

The president of the Argentine Patagonian Chamber of Fishing Industries (CAPIP). Agustín de la Fuente, considered that in the current context the conditions are not given to start a process of quoting the species Pleoticus muelleri, considering that it will generate cracks within the sector, and maintains that it is time to add joint efforts to obtain measures that give predictability to the industry.
“Today, talking about a quota without having been able to finish a management plan for the fishery, it seems to me that it is not recommended. There are many other things to fulfill before entering this debate, ”he said in statements to REVISTA PUERTO.
When arguing his position, he said that “we must not lose focus on the problems we are having today as a sector. So, talking about quota interests, at a time of economic instability, would be disuniting the general fishing sector in Argentina. The context does not allow for this discussion, I understand that this is not the time,” he reiterated.
“It would cause a disunity in the sector”
De la Fuente maintained that the 'Inter-Cámaras de la Industria Pesquera Argentina' that groups together different business entities from Buenos Aires and Patagonia, and various fleet stratifications, jointly manage a series of measures to face the economic situation.
"The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Juan José Bahillo, summoned us for a meeting next Monday to advance on the points that were agreed upon in the meeting with the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, and I believe that this The type of measures that arise there are much more urgent than seeing if we can make quotas”, he contrasted.

"I very much respect those who raise this issue, but there are other priorities that Argentine fishing has today, and I think that this quota would cause a very strong disunity in the sector," he suggested.
Winners and losers
However, when he recalled how the quota distribution process for the species Merlucius hubbsi was, when he was an advisor to the CFP for the province of Santa Cruz, he said that “certain injustices occurred. There were parameters that did not qualify to enter the quota and a political decision had to come to resolve it. UDIPA had no history, did not qualify. The political authority came and quoted. Quotification leaves winners and losers. And today what we need is to maintain harmony within the industry," he opined. "We cannot go to the national government to demand measures if we are dispersed and fighting," he added.
Coincidences with CAFACh
CAPIP maintains a position similar to that of the Chubut yellow fleet with respect to initiating a process of quoting the shrimp resource.

"Today we were meeting with CAFACh and analyzing how the season is going in provincial waters, we agree that the catches are being almost extraordinary, to the point that there are cameras full, not only because a lot of fishing is being done, but because sales are stagnant," highlighted.
De la Fuente maintained that “the trade issue is having problems. It is costing a lot to close operations or the sales are not being closed as desired. The catches are very good, the plants are supplied, but the cold rooms are full,” he explained.
“We have gestures from the fleet to lower the price of raw material. This interaction between CAPIP and CAFACh helps to make visible a problem that is occurring in the industry chain, because beyond the good catches, at some point the plants will also not be able to receive more. The installed cold capacity is limited and is almost covered,” he described about the scenario that is presented at the beginning of the year.

In his analysis, he evaluated that “there are several factors that affect this brake on sales. There is still stock in Europe of our products, such as frozen shrimp on board. There is no need to be alarmist, but the panorama presents itself with difficulties”, he concluded.
