The accumulated seafood landings in Chile as of December 2019 amounted to 3.46 million tons. These landings include those from the extractive sector (artisanal and industrial subsectors and landings from factory ships, shore harvesters and management areas) and also incorporates aquaculture harvests. This figure represented a decrease of 3.1% compared to the same date last year and is 2.3% higher than the average for the five-year period 2014-2018, as indicated in the Annual Sectorial Report on Fisheries and Aquaculture prepared by the Undersecretariat of Fishing and Aquaculture (Subpesca).
Of the total landings accumulated as of December, the extractive sector represented 62.0% with a landed volume of 2.14 million tons, which showed a decrease of 7.8% compared to the same month of the year 2018. On the other, the aquaculture sector represented 38.0% with a harvested volume of 1.32 million tons, which meant an increase of 5.7% over the same period of the previous year.
Anchovy landings accumulated until December reached 742,500 t, which implied a decrease of 11.5% compared to the same date of 2018.
Mackerel landings registered an increase 61.6% compared to 2018, totaling 87,500 t.
The landings of jack mackerel accumulated as of December 2019 reached 444 300 t, which was 14.6% higher than in the same period of 2018.
Landings of common sardine amounted to 320 100 t, which meant a decrease of 7.3% compared to the same date of the year 2018.
Giant squid landings totaled 58,000 tons, down 60.1% compared to the same date of 2018.
The landings of demersal resources accumulated as of December 2019 amounted 41 300 t, which meant a decrease of 4.7% year-on-year.
Landings of common hake accumulated as of December 2019 reached 26 000 t, which represented an increase of 12.4% compared to 2018. The industrial sector contributed 67.9% of the total with 17 600 t, while the artisanal sector registered 8 300 t, up 0.6% higher from 2018.
The landings of resources that make up the southern southern demersal fishery (PDA) as of December 2019 amounted to 37,700 tons, which was 2.3% higher compared to the same period of 2018.
Landings of southern hake accumulated as of December of this year totaled 17 200 t, a figure that showed a 2.9% decrease year-on-year The levels of industrial and artisanal landing reached 13 400 t and 3 800 t, respectively.
